Construction Accident Responsible for Death

Staff Writer, Jul 19, 2007

On July 19, 2007, a 65 year old man was killed in what seemed to be a construction accident at the demolition site of an old tannery in Chicago.  The accident occured around 1:30pm.

Jose Torres was part of the crew responsible for the tannery's demolition since it closed last year.

There were no direct witnesses, but from the look of the body and the area around it, it seems like the death occured from a construction accident.

Torres was found pinned between a forklift and a wall.  He was crushed in the process.  Though he was taken to the hospital to care for his injuries, he was pronounced dead around 3:40pm.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, July 20, 2007.
