Hamden Man Charged with Workers' Compensation Fraud

Chief State's Attorney Christopher L. Morano today announced that Manuel J. Fortes, age 46, of 202 Circular Avenue, Hamden, was arrested by Inspectors from the Chief State's Attorney's Office on a warrant charging him with one count of Fraudulent Receipt of Workers' Compensation Benefits, a felony carrying a maximum prison term of twenty years. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Mr. Fortes claimed a work related injury on August 30, 2004, while working for Advanced Management Services. He began receiving temporary partial disability benefits in November 2004, the warrant states. Between October 24, 2004 and February 10, 2006, Mr. Fortes received more than $15,000 in benefits while claiming that he was looking for employment within the limits of his ability to work in a sedentary position, which was not available at Advanced Management Services, according to the warrant.
