What Is The California Workers Compensation Information System
< Back to California Workers Compensation Resources California's workers' compensation information system (WCIS) uses electronic data interchange (EDI) to collect comprehensive information from claims administrators to help the Department of Industrial Relations oversee the state's workers' compensation system. This information helps facilitate evaluation of the system and measure adequacy of benefits for injured workers and their dependents as well as provide statistical data for research. After initial years of development and input from affected groups, the first phase of WCIS became operational in September 1999. Electronic transmission of first reports of injury was required beginning March 1, 2000 and electronic versions of benefit notices were mandated as of July 1, 2000.
