Although all fifty states offer some level of assistance to injured workers, most workers' compensation programs are administered at the state level, rather than the federal level. While there are a few exceptions, including coverage of workers in a number of high-risk federal occupations, the major of work injury claims are overseen by state-level agencies and bureaus that handle workers' compensation. OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is a federal agency that oversees issues related to workplace health and safety. The agency's primary duty is overseeing and enforcing the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) statutes, a sweeping set of policies that dictate workplace health and safety practices throughout most economic sectors. OSHA enforces workplace health and safety regulations through a series of planned and unannounced inspections. In addition, the agency offers extensive training and educational opportunities to help companies learn more about ways to reduce injury risk in the workplace.
