Workers Compensation Disability

In some cases, workers who have been injured or who have sustained an illness on the job may be entitled to compensation benefits, if is determined that the illness or injury stemmed from work-related duties or activities. These benefits usually include the coverage of all medical costs associated with treating the work-related injury or illness. However, in some cases, the benefits awarded may also include a type of workers' compensation disability coverage. These payments, often referred to as "indemnity payments," are intended to help supplement or replace the injured worker's income while he or she is recovering. Although the specific procedure used to calculate these payments varies, they are typically figured at about two-thirds the worker's normal salary. If the injury or illness is very severe, the worker may qualify for permanent or long-term disability payments. However, in most cases, the payments are intended only as a temporary relief measure and will terminate when the worker has recovered and returned to work.
