Workers' Compensation Law

Workers Compensation Law are rules designed to address the needs of workers who become ill or who are injured on the job in the course of carrying out their work related duties. The intention is to establish a set of awards that will be given to a worker or his surviving family in the event that a worker becomes ill, injured or even dies while on the job. The laws were established so that an employee who is injured or disabled can receive damage reimbursement with out the need for litigation.

State laws govern the eligibility of workers and the settelment amount that is awarded to the worker or his family in the event that a claim is filed. Medical expenses may cover the cost of hospitals, physicians and emergency medical treatment. Disability pay covers payments for temporary or permanent disabilities. Vocational rehabilitation covers a range of issues from physical therapy to job retraining, making reentry into the work force possible. Survivor benefits provide a continuing income to devastated surviving family members.

An injured worker or surviving family member who finds themselves faced with navigating the workers comp program may have questions and concerns regarding the benefits that they are entitled to. Although not always necessary it may be prudent to retain legal council to insure the maximum benefit reward.
